Beth Gutcheon is back with her second book featuring the characters of Maggie Detweiler and Hope Babbin. The Affliction is in stores now from William Morrow. A fun story with comedy mixed with a murder and a lot of people that live in a small Hudson River town. Secrets galore and Maggie and Hope are on the case to help the police solve the murder.
The Rye Manor School for girls is being evaluated if it should stay opens. Maggie is one of the people helping to do this. She heads to Florence Meagher’s room to check out the class. Florence hasn’t shown up for class. No one seems to know where she is. She is also the affliction in the story (she can’t stop talking). Two days later her body is found in the swimming pool.
This sends shock waves through the school and the community. Maggie is on the case and calls her socialite friend Hope (the comic relief of the story) to come help her solve this case. What follows is an in dept investigation of almost everyone associated with the school. Along the way a lot of secrets will be revealed as the killer is tracked down.
This is Beth’s eleventh novel and the two lead female characters are a refreshing breath of sunshine to read. Not to mention you’ll have a few chuckles along the way!
