Book Review: ‘Ten Days Gone’ Book One In The New A.L. McKittridge And Rena Morgan Series

A serial killer is at loose in a small Wisconsin town killing women every ten days with the same pattern and has killed four already. And now it’s up to detectives A.L. McKittridge and Rena Morgan to solve the case before the next killing takes place in ten days. And they really have no idea how to do this. The killer leaves no clues to work with. Their only hope is to somehow connect the four women and go from there.

When going through the latest murder victims stuff they find a check made out to a non-profit and get their first break in the case, when they find all four women have been connected to this. From there they get more clues and find a master list with all the names on it and figure out who the next victim will be. But she’s in the wind right now and it’s a race to find her and to save her before it’s too late.

The story also focuses on their personal lives. Rena is trying to get pregnant and is having issues on that front and also suspects her husband might be cheating. A.L. is divorced and has a sixteen year old daughter to deal with (and if you know about 16 year old girls that’s all I have to say about that). So between trying to solve this case, their personal lives and dealing with a new chief of police, it’s a trying time.

Author Beverly Long has started off strong with this new series. A lot of character development and a solid murder mystery makes the novel move along at a good pace. There’s never a dull moment and that’s a good thing for thrillers like this. I look forward to more adventures with A.L. and Rena.

You can pick up Ten Days Gone in stores on Tuesday, February 19th from MIRA Mass Paperback.
