Alex Hawke is looking for a mysterious foe, named Warmonger, who is causing havoc around the world. No one knows who he is or where he is, but there are rumors that he is a Russian. His search is put on hold when King Charles calls him for a meeting. It seems the Crown is about to be blackmailed for something that happened in 1918 by Putin, and he needs Alex to escort Dr. Ariande Silk to Russia for a meeting with Putin, who still wants Alex dead. When they get there, they find out it’s a trap, something dramatic takes place, there’s a betrayal, and Alex is in prison with almost no hope for escape, or so he thinks. There’s also another story going on with Ambrose Congreve, who is looking for a serial killer, named Silence, and it involves Dr. Silk. We also get flashback chapters as to what happened in 1918 and to Alex’s ancestor, the original Alexander Hawke. This is another thrilling novel that is all action, with twists and turns, especially at the end of the novel. There are also a couple of sad deaths along the way. Author Ryan Steck has done another outstanding job honoring the late Ted Bell and keeping Alex Hawke interesting and exciting. This is one of the best action-thrillers of the year!
