Book Review: ‘Suburban Dicks: A Novel’ By Fabian Nicieza

The debut novel from the man who works for Marvel and co-wrote the Deadpool comic-book (as well as many others), has written a great first novel with two of the best new characters this year and a story that is fun to read and follow. Set in a small New Jersey town, with quirky, well-written characters, this is one not to be missed.

An Indian man is killed at a gas station in what is reported as a robbery. But Andrea Stern knows better. She stumbled onto the crime scene and knew a lot more was going on than the rookie cops first at the scene. Andrea is a former FBI profiler and cracked one of the biggest cases years ago in New York. She’s living in this small town now with four kids and a fifth one on the way in just a few months. She gets the old itch and decides to investigate and team up with local reporter Kenny Lee, who is a pulitzer prize winner but a scandal wrecked his career and now he works for the local paper. They soon learn there’s a conspiracy to cover up the murder and it leads to an even bigger cover up of something that happened years ago. Together they will attempt to bring down the people behind what happened then and now and won’t stop until they’ve uncovered the truth.

Sharply written, with some LOL moments, here’s hoping for more adventures with this duo.

You can pick up Suburban Dicks in stores on Tuesday, June 22nd from Putnam.
