Book Review: ‘Strangers She Knows’ Is The Thrilling Conclusion To The Cape Charade Series

The finale to author Christina Dodd’s Cape Charade series is a thrill ride a minute. It starts off strong and builds to a thrilling climax and reveal. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series (and it isn’t necessary) to follow the story. Enough backstory is given to understand everything. There are many twists and turns to keep the reader engaged up to the great ending.

Kellen Adams is recovering from having a bullet removed from her brain and other injuries a few years after it has happened with her husband Max and daughter Rae. Word has reached them that serial killer Mara has escaped from prison and has been on a murder spree and they know she’s coming after them soon. Max decides to take the family for the summer to the island the family owns off the coast of California. It has a mansion and caretakers that farm and watch over things. He feels this is the safest thing until Mara is caught.

Alone on the island is peaceful and there’s no internet or phones. While there they find an old diary belonging to Ruby who once lived in the house. They read her story and are fascinated by her life. Meanwhile Mara has snuck onto the island and is planning her revenge on the family. When a massive storm heads toward the island they plan to leave but Mara finds out and destroys the helicopter they have. Max and Rae (who needs to be in a hospital) take the boat they have, leaving Kellen to face off with Mara, who they know is on the island now. It’s classic battle of cat and mouse leading to an intense showdown and a fight to the death and a reveal of a guardian angel.
