Cleo is a young girl in college, works part-time at a vet’s office, owns a home she inherited from her aunt, and oh yeah, she is also a cat. She has tenants that live in the house, and every night, as a cat, she sleeps with Wes, who takes care of her. She has weird dreams all the time and is out on the prowel killing strange animals and insects that could be a danger to her. When one morning she wakes up in bed with Wes as Cleo and is naked, she ends up telling him the truth about herself. The two start having hot sex and fall in love. Everything is fine until Ollie, a man and a dog, and Bailey, who is a witch, show up. It turns out Wes is also a witch, and Cleo and Ollie are their familiars. They practice magic together, one couple breaks up, and it soon becomes apparent that Bailey and Ollie have an agenda; they want to learn the truth about her parents and their past. When they finally learn what happened to their parents, it’s a shocking reveal, and when a demon shows up, the four have to work together to save all four of them and destroy the demon. This is the debut novel from author Mortlock, and it’s a good one. Filled with magic, steamy sex, and twists you don’t see coming. This is a perfect beginning of fall novel.
