Jake Powell lives in a run-down apartment building on a Florida barrier island. He is there, separated from his wife, who lives in Ohio with their teenage daughter. He’s ready to move back there and try and put his family back together. As he’s ready to leave, a category three hurricane is fast approaching, and he has little time to leave. He goes to get his stuff at his apartment and says goodbye to his best friend Dallas, who manages the building and fights for tenants with the rich owners, who won’t do anything to fix the building. After checking on another resident, he finds Dallas dead in his apartment. He rushes to leave, passing a car approaching the island. He stops at the police station to report the murder and finds out the car that passed him was his wife and daughter. Rushing back to the building, he gathers everyone to stay together. A strange man is seen lurking around as the storm gathers strength and is about to pass over them. He starts to learn secrets about these people, and that one of them is a killer. If the storm doesn’t get them, the killer just might. This is a well-written, psychological thriller that ramps the tension up with each chapter. Readers will be on the edge of their seats reading this one.
