Book Review: ‘Stone Blind: A Novel’ By Natalie Haynes

This is the story of Medusa, a Gorgon monster, and the Greek Gods. Medusa is the youngest of the sisters, and is not immortal, so she ages, and feels things. Poseidon is the God of the sea, and takes a liking to Medusa, and he rapes her in the temple of Athene, who is outraged at this. She can’t do anything to the God, so she curses Medusa, with snakes in her hair, and anything she looks at turns to stone. Perseus is sixteen, when a horrible king arrives where he, and his mother live, and demands to marry her. In order to save her, he must get the head of a Gorgon. So he sets out on a journey to do this. As the son of Zeus, he gets help along the way. This is his story and that of Medusa. There are side stories involving the Greek Gods of Zeus. Hera, Athene, Poseidon, and others, with their in-fighting, and jealousy of each other. Anyone that is a fan, (like me), of Greek Mythology will enjoy this novel.

You can pick up Stone Blind in stores on Tuesday, February 7th from Harper.
