Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are at a charity benefit, Eve in a dress and heels, and she would rather be anywhere else. When she gets a call that Nathan Barrister, who is beyond wealthy, has been found dead in his house, she is off to investigate. He was found on the floor outside a secret vault, filled with valuable paintings, jewels and other assorted riches, all of which were stolen years ago from various places, and some pieces have been stolen. It soon comes out that Nathan’s father was responsible for the vault and the contents, and the family just found the vault a few months ago and planned to give everything back. As Eve begins to investigate, she gets a confession from Roarke, one of the pieces, the Royal Suite, an emerald, was stolen by him when he was eighteen, and it puts Eve in a tough spot knowing this information. She soon figures out the murderer was someone close to the victim, and brings back someone from Roarke’s past that could possibly destroy him. Another intense novel that showcases some of Roarke’s past and brings together all of our favorite characters. Fans of the series will enjoy this 62nd novel in the series.
