Author J.A. Jance is back with her next J.P. Beaumont novel. This time the former homicide cop turned P.I. is involved in a case that is very personal to him. His past comes back to haunt him in a big way. When an acquaintance Alan Dale shows up things will never be the same. He has a newborn baby (his granddaughter Athena) and tells him he needs his help in finding his missing daughter Naomi. She gave birth and then left the hospital without a word. She is/was a drug user and has been on the streets.

J.P. notices something about Naomi and he doesn’t want to believe it. He takes the case and helps Alan and Athena out by giving them his Seattle apartment to stay in and begins his investigation which slowly makes progress and he is able to track down Naomi and also investigate a murder that involves a plot to steal money that rightfully should go to Athena. It leads to a shocking discovery of murders and forgeries and with the help of the Police J.P. is able to help break the case wide open. J.P. then has to come clean to his family about a secret from his past.

This may be the best J.P, Beaumont novel yet. It’s all about family and how the past can come back to haunt you when you least expect it. And it has Lucy the dog so that is a big plus as well. Be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster with this one.

You can pick up Sins Of The Father in stores on Tuesday, September 24th from William Morrow.
