Book Review: ‘Shoulder Season: A Novel’ By Christina Clancy

The year is 1981 and Sherry Taylor lives in East Troy, Wisconsin, who is 19 years old, has lost her father and mother, and is at a loss for what to do. She owns a building and apartment that she needs to unload, but no one is interested. When she goes with her best friend Roberta to an interview at the Playboy Club Resort, she never dreamed she would be hired to work there. This isn’t like the clubs in Los Angeles, this one is family friendly. And once she starts she loves it. It’s tough work with lots of rules but the money is great. And soon innocent Sherry learns what it’s like to party, have sex and fall in love and get her heart broken. Things start to get out of control for Sherry and a tragic accident sends her over the edge. The story is set in present time for a bit but mostly focuses on Sherry’s past and how things played out right up to today. It’s a great look at what life was like working for the Playboy club. A solid character driven story that is very entertaining. A perfect read for the beach, pool or just chilling.
