Kate Valentine has written 3 successful novels, with her Loretta Starling character, for a small book company in Seattle. She’s working on the fourth novel, but having some writer’s block. This weekend is the wedding of her editor, and former fiance, and has agreed to go to the wedding, being held on a private island, owned by a rich family he is marrying into. When she gets there, the first person she sees is Jack, an Austrian hunk and author she worked on books with, and almost had something with him. Right from the beginning strange things are happening, the bride is poisoned, the power goes out and the generator doesn’t work, and someone is trying to frame Kate for the poisoning and then the murder of the family matriarch. Kate and Jack, who still have an attraction, team up personally to find out who the killer is before it’s too late for everyone on this isolated island. This is a fun mystery/rom-com that is charming, sexy and engaging to read, with a few well-timed twists and turns. A good novel to start the year off with.
