Author Emily Littlejohn is back with book number 4 in her Detective Gemma Monroe series. This time around Gemma has to solve the murder of an old friend and stop a tragic bombing from taking place that could wipe out a good portion of the town. She also has her upcoming wedding to deal with.
It’s Halloween night and the first one for Gemma and Brody with their baby daughter Grace. They take her out trick or treating and stop by to see her old friend and former judge Caleb Montgomery. He tells her that he’s been getting threatening letters for a few months now. Gemma takes the letters and plans on investigating. As she and Brody pull away they hear an explosion and Gemma runs off to it to find Caleb’s car has exploded with him in it.
She’s reluctantly put on the case (the chief thinks she’s too close to Caleb) and she and Finn start their investigation. Everyone is a suspect including a man that has been in prison for years (Caleb put him away after his trial) that Gemma goes to talk to. They soon figure out after another man is murdered that the killer is following a path from a murdered from many years ago. They soon figure out who is responsible and what the heinous plan is and have to race to stop it before it’s too late. And all this while her wedding to Brody is only weeks away.
This is another thrilling chapter in the series. A lot of growth has taken place with the characters since the first book and Gemma is a great character to visit with as each new book comes out. The story starts off strong and never lets up right to the climatic ending.
