The setting is Harlot’s Bay, and Molly Dearborn has returned to town after twenty years when she reads that her onetime friend, Karl Dean, whom she crushed on in high school, has passed away. When she arrives in town, she finds him very much alive the newspaper story wasn’t true. Karl, who had the hots for Molly as well back in the day, but never acted on it, is happy to see her and explains what happened back then and asks her to let him regain his trust and to please stay in town for their high school reunion in a month. She only commits to a week, until she loses a bet to her friend, and will stay the month. They spend a lot of time together getting to know each other, let their guards down, have hot sex, and Molly starts to think life back in Harlot’s Bay might not be so bad. This is a great follow-up to At First Spite, the first novel in the series featuring Matthew and Athena, who appear in this book, along with a great supporting cast. The writing is crisp and fun, as the two banter back and forth. This is a delightful rom-com that hits all the right marks.
