Fletcher Spence works at a travel magazine as an assistant to the owner of Cartwright Media. She has been doing it for three years and really wants to move up to a photographer. It’s time for the annual company retreat to the private island owned by Cartwright, complete with wild animals you would see on safari, where promotions are given out, and Fletcher is left off the guest list. She worms her way to an invite at the last minute, so she’s off to the island as well. When her boss is found dead by his estranged son, Waylon, and a nemesis of Fletcher, his will is read right away. He leaves the company to whoever survives the island. There is no cell or wi-fi service, and no way to get off the island. Whoever is left standing in five days will get the company. This sets off a wave of killings, alliances, and having to watch and protect yourself. As the bodies start dropping, Fletcher finds herself with the only person who might be able to keep her alive, Waylon. This is a pulse-pounding, intense, funny at times thriller. This is one of those books you will not want to put down. A perfect Memorial Day Weekend thriller to read at the beach.
