Eight years ago, David Webb, aka Jason Bourne, was in Miami on vacation when he saw a Chinese spy named Fang and followed him, and then lost four days of his memory. Now in the present day, Shadow, head of Treadstone, has noticed an uptick in Chinese action, and wants Bourne to find Bai Ze, so they can stop what is going on. It all leads to a small town, Fish Creek, Wisconsin, where Bourne was during those missing four days eight years ago, even though he has no memory of it. As he discovers things, he has no idea that Bai Ze is one step ahead of him at every turn and is playing him. He meets a local reporter named Laney Reese, who was there eight years ago, and helps him fill in some of his memories, although she seems to have memory loss herself. It all leads to a showdown in Washington, where Bourne may betray Shadow and Treadstone, in order to get his memories back, but Bourne is the one blindsided by shocking betrayals. This is another intense, well-written action-thriller. The second half of this novel really picks up speed, and shocking twists come fast, and you don’t see them coming. Fans of this series will love this new one.
