Jesse Stone is called to do a welfare check on an older man who hasn’t been heard from in a while. A man named Matthew Pebbles has requested it. When Jesse enters he finds the man dead and millions of dollars buried in his couch. He also finds boxes of pictures of dead people, shot in the head. Matthew vanishes and an investigation begins. Jesse also hires a new cop named Derek Tate and he right away rubs people the wrong way and pisses off a lot of people. When they finally arrest Matthew, they learn his great-uncle is a gangster and may be behind everything they found. Jesse warns his crew that trouble is coming to Paradise, someone wants the money and evidence they have and all hell is about to break out. It leads to a dramatic climax to the story. This is another great novel in the series. Author Farnsworth does a good job with his first novel in the series, which is in good hands with him. Fans of the series will enjoy this one.
