The third novel in the series is set in September 1815 and Lady Petra has been invited to the palace for a week’s worth of events, including a baking competition, with Mrs. Bing, who is her cook invited to participate. Petra will also serve as a judge for the event. Also at the castle is Sir Rufus Pomeroy, a former royal chef and successful cookbook author. When Petra goes to meet him in the morning, she finds him dead and it looks like his servant, Oliver, has committed the crime. It turns out he is the brother of Annie, Lady Petra’s maid, and she is determined to find out who the killer is, she believes Oliver is innocent. There are any number of suspects, including her Aunt. Petra is getting close to the truth when she finds her life in danger and it leads to a shocking reveal of the killer. This is another fun novel in the series. Lady Petra is a smart, strong female in a time when women should be all prim and proper. Fans of the first two novels will enjoy this one.
