A Russian family, with new American names Leonard, his wife Martha, and son Bernard, has defected to the United States, and in witness protection. They’re being relocated to Minneapolis, and the US Marshall, Lucas Davenport, is on hand when they arrive Having scouted out the place it, looks safe, and the family arrives. Right away, a shot is fired, and Martha dies. Lucas and his partner, Shelly White, chase the car down with the hit team, wounding them, but they get away. There is a mole somewhere, and Lucas is on the trail to find the hit squad before they can strike again. He works with CIA agent Sherwood, and soon they figure out who the mole is, set a trap, and get a surprise offer that could change everything. This is the 36th novel in the series, and it’s another great one. The story starts off fast and never lets up. Fans of the series will enjoy this one, with a cameo by Virgil Flowers.
