A wildfire breaks out in Australia, and artist Alison King barely survives. The damage to her house isn’t as bad as others. When she finally leaves, she finds a strange car in her driveway, with a dead woman in it, who looks a lot like her, and had her address in her purse. This is a woman that Alison has never seen before. The police have a lot of questions, and soon discover they use to live in the same area years ago. Alison decides to investigate this woman and find out why she came to her house, and to make sure she’s not accused of murdering her. But sometimes it’s better not to know things, and soon she’s involved in a full-on mystery. Just who is this woman, why was she here, and is someone thinking that Alison is her. A well-written debut novel that hits all the right buttons. Fans of slow building psychological thrillers will enjoy this one.
