Marissa Dahl is a successful film editor. She’s hired to work on a new film after the previous editor is fired. She knows nothing about the movie except famed, hard-assed director Tony Rees is filming a true crime drama with the tag Some Girl Dies. The movie is filming on a small island off the coast of Delaware.

There’s a hotel on the island and she soon learns that 19 year old actress, Caitlyn Kelly, in 1994 was found dead on the beach. The case was never solved. Soon strange things start to happen on the set. Marissa soon learns that strange things have been happening ever since production began. She soon learns lots of the crew have been fired and others want to quit. It puzzles her a lot as to what’s happening.

Soon with the help of ex-Navy Seal Isaiah, who’s working the film and two 13 year old girls named Grace and Suzy, they set out to try and find out who was the killer. Of course this can’t be good and soon there’s a dead body and a whole lot of trouble.

Throughout the story we are treated to bits and pieces from a podcast that Grace and Suzy do.

A solid story of what life is like working on a movie set with a killer on the loose, makes for an intriguing story. Add in the bits from the podcast and you get hooked until the end. A solid mystery that keeps the reader engaged from the very beginning.

You can pick up Pretty As A Picture in stores on Tuesday, February 25th from Viking.
