Book Review: ‘Playing It Safe: An Electra McDonnell Novel’ By Ashley Weaver

Electra McDonnell works for the UK government as a spy, and it’s time for her next assignment. Major Ramsey has her off to Sunderland, and she has no idea what it is she’s to do. She settles into her boarding house, and then she sees the dead body of a man who saved her from falling a few hours earlier. It turns out he as part of an ID counterfeiting ring, and that’s what she is here for, to help Major Ramsey uncover just who is behind it. They pretend to be a couple dating, and soon learn where the IDs are being made, and who may be behind it. Just as they think they figured it out, the script is turned on them, and they’re in grave danger, and one of them may not make it out alive. I love Ashley Weaver novels, and this is the first time I’ve read this character (it’s book number three), and it has well-written characters, and a story that keeps you engaged. Fans of this series will Ike this one.
