A great follow-up to Murder In Bombay, finds Captain Jim Agnihotri and his new bride Diana Framji now living in Boston in 1893. They moved her months ago and Jim has a job with a detective agency and Diana is trainging to be a nurse. Jim has been teaching Diana how to protect herself with some secret gadgets and they come in handy for Diana in this story. The World’s fair is taking place in Chicago and some strange things have been happening. Jim is sent there to investigate a murder and then another murder takes place. Five weeks later no word from Jim and Diana is really worried. She goes to his bosses and gets information and talks them into sending her to Chicago to look for Jim (she was going to go anyway). She takes a man named Tobias with her and once in Chicago meets a couple of others that will help her. She soon gets herself into some trouble but also starts finding out valuable information and learns Jim is in deep undercover and two of them have to be very careful. Some people are upset about what’s happening in the city and are planning to do something about it. It will be up to Diana and Jim to stop them and get out in one piece. I really enjoyed this second novel and the quirky characters that came with it. It’s a great look at the time of 1893 in Boston and in Chicago, author Nev March really did her research in describing the time. A story you won’t want to put down.
