Book Review: ‘Paper & Blood: Book Two In The Ink & Sigel Series’ By Kevin Hearne

Al is one on a handful of Ink & Sigel magic in the world. His base of operation is in Scotland. When a couple of fellow agents go missing in Australia, he goes there to try and find them. Along for the mission is his apprentice and hobgoblin Buck. Along the way The Iron Druid shows up with his two dogs, who understand english and can talk to the Druid. As they search trails in the forest they find dead bodies, a mysterious person shows up and they find out they’re up against the Mother Of All Demons. It’s a battle to end all battles to rid this demon gone and save his fellow Sigel workers. We also learn that his secretary Gladys is not who we think she is. And Al, who is has two curses on him, learns a little bit more about how the curses where placed on him, but still has no idea who did it. And the highlight of the book is Buck, who is so well written and so funny. And author Kevin Hearne does a great job of writing some of the novel in the actual Scottish language. It’s sometimes hard to follow but enhances the novel big-time.

Book two of the Ink & Sigel series is a great follow up to the first book. It’s sharply written with a lot of LOL moments and furthes the story of it’s two main characters and exploration of some minor characters. It starts out strong and never lets up and is one of the best books of the summer. Highly suggest getting the first book in the series (Ink & Sigil: From the world of The Iron Druid Chronicles) but is not necessary. I can’t wait for the next novel in the series. There’s still so many unanswered questions to be explored.

You can pick up Paper & Blood: Book Two In The Ink & Sigel Series in stores on Tuesday, August 10th from Del Rey.
