James Taylor is at the funeral for his former schoolmate and notices a man a few feet in front of him and can’t believe his eyes, it’s another friend, Rufus Rorke, who died two years ago and James did the eulogy. He tries to get closer to him after the funeral, but he slips out, and James is determined to find out if it is him. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace has to deal with some mysterious deaths, including two people who died after eating poisonous mushrooms. As he and his team investigate, these deaths, and a few more, all seem to be connected, and seem to point to Rufus, who is very much alive, and deals 3D guns and hitman services, and is filthy rich. What he doesn’t know is that the police are on to him and he takes steps to stay ahead of them, but he may have overplayed his hand in having to deal with Roy Grace. This is my first time reading one of these novels, this is number 20, and enjoyed this a lot. Roy is a great character, and has a snarky, fun sense to him, especially dealing with his co-workers and family. Fans of this series will enjoy this one, and if you’re new like me, join the bandwagon.
