Eve Ambrose, a successful playwright, is having a tough time right now. She has been trying to have a baby with her boyfriend, Leo, and has had two miscarriages, and she decides it’s time for a new start. She dumps him and leaves for her grandmother’s cabin in the Tennessee mountains, not far from Dollywood. Jamie Gallagher has just won custody of his son, Jack, who is 8, after a bitter fight with his ex, whom he never married. He has a cabin in the mountains as well, and has issues of his own. When they first meet, it doesn’t go well she is a bitch to him. Soon they become friends, and then more, and they start opening up a bit about themselves, and then they fall in love. Things become too much for her, and she bolts from the relationship. She has a secret about her past, and resentment toward her parents she needs to work out and has to decide if Jamie is the one for her. This is part rom-com and all heart. Watching these two forge ahead and try to put the pain of their pasts behind is refreshing and well-written. This is the debut novel from author Ashley Jordan, it’s a winner.
