Book Review: ‘Nonna Maria And The Case Of The Missing Bride: A Novel’ By Lorenzo Carcaterra

I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is one of the best books of the year or any year. The lead character is one of the best I have read in many, many years. Just an absolute blast reading this novel. Noona Maria has lived on the Italian island of Ischia all her life. She’s now a widow and has been for many years but has a big family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She knows just about everyone on the island and what’s going on with the people of the island. Nothing gets by her. And when someone needs help they come to Nonna and she usually solves the problem. Anna is engaged to be married to a man she doesn’t want to marry and is afraid to break it off. So Nonna helps her ‘vanish’ so she can investigate the man. And when the 85 year old captain of a tour boat is killed late one night while at sea, Nonna takes it upon herself to find out exactly what happened to him. She finds more answers than the police (who she works with). Noona is a force to be reckoned with and you don’t want to cross her. Here’s hoping for more adventures with Nonna in the future.
