Book Review: ‘No Funny Business: A Novel’ By Amanda Aksel

If you’re looking for a fun summer rom-com to read, look no further than No Funny Business. It has everything you want, two people to root for, a stand-up comedy adventure and conflict, a perfect beach read. Olivia Vincent works at a law firm by day and at night she’s a stand-up comedian, which is what she really wants to do. She gets local gigs and is waiting for that one big break, which she finally might get, with an audition on a nighttime talk show. When she gets a last minute booking open for Nick Leto, a well-know comedian, she kills it. She also looses her job because of the gig. Then she’s offered the opening slot on Nick’s upcoming ten city tour and jumps at it. She’s never been on the road before and she has a lot to learn. They are driving by car, staying in some crappy places, her performances not great, listening to classic rock during the drive and an attraction between her and Nick. But Nick is there for her, helping her along the way and they each fall for each other. But the hazards of being on the road can be too much and it could derail a romance and career.

You can pick up No Funny Business in stores on Tuesday, July 12th from Berkley.
