The year is 1988, in Dublin and Emma Daly had hoped to be a police inspector, but it doesn’t work out. She returns to the small village of Castlefreke and fixes the local library. When she hears gunshots from her elderly neighbor’s house, and a man dead, she sees a man running away, and a man injured, who had vanished 32 years ago and the police suspect him as the killer. Emma soon investigates, as the police don’t listen to her when she tells them about the man running away. She soon finds out shocking secrets in her village and she needs to find the killer, before the killer takes care of her. This is a good debut novel from author O’Donnell, that keeps you engaged throughout the book. Hopefully this is the start of a series.
