Nora Roberts writes four books a year…2 as J.D. Robb (Eve Dallas series), a triology series (new book comes out in November) and a character driven novel (the May release every year) and this one, Nightwork, is great. The slow buidling story and character of Harry Booth is one of the best ones she’s written in a while (as far as her character driven stories go). You just want to keep following this story and not put it down. It was always Harry Booth, his mother and his aunt growing up in Chicago. Then his mom got sick with cancer and at age nine he started taking to the streets to get money to help pay the bills. He would pick-pocket, shoplift and then start robbing houses and soon he was banking a lot of money to help take care of his mother. Once she’s gone he leaves town, does jobs here and there and settles in New Orleans, where he meets new people and Sebastien, who knows about him, and gets him to help with an art heist for a good amount of money, from a rich, powerful man named Carter LaPorte. And now Carter won’t leave Harry alone. He calls on him from time to time and Harry (who uses a lot of different names) has to do what he asks or risk people getting hurt. And Harry is now fed up and decides to go on offense and take care of Carter once and for all or die trying. A perfect book to kick off the Memorial Day weekend!
You can pick up Nightwork in stores on Tuesday, May 24th from Nora Roberts.
