Fans of Victoria Thompson’s Gaslight Series will be happy she is back with her next adventure with Frank and Sarah Malloy. Murder On Union Square is in stores on Tuesday, May 1st, from Berkley Prime Crime Hardcover.
Frank and Sarah are ready to adopt Catherine as their own daughter. They just have to get an actor named Parnell Vaughn (who’s in town doing a play) to sign off on it. He is legally the girls father (but not her biological father). He agrees to sign the papers but his fellow actress/girlfriend (if she really is) Eliza demands money for him (even though that is illegal). Frank agrees to it and has the papers and money and goes to have Parnell sign them. He plans to give the money to Eliza thus it won’t be illegal.
When he arrives at the theater he finds Parnell dead and is arrested and accused of the murder. He didn’t do it and gets out on bail and along with his partner Dino, their nanny Maeve and Sarah they start an investigation to find who the real killer is. As they dig they learn shocking details about Parnell, Eliza and the other people involved in the play that is running. They even have Serafina (from previous stories) to have a seance to try and contact Parnell and out the killer once and for all.
My first time reading one of the Gaslight Mysteries and I found it a really, fun, entertaining read. The characters are a fun group and I look forward to reading future stories with them!
