Book Review: ‘Murder On Mustang Beach: A Novel’ By Alicia Bessette

Cattail Island is in the outer banks of North Carolina, and is a popular summer destination. Callie Padget lives and works at the only bookstore on the island, and is ready for her first date with Toby Dodge, who owns a martial arts studio. Things are put on hold when they arrive at his studio and find a dead body of a newlywed, and Toby becomes a prime suspect, he had a past with the dead man. This is the second time Callie has found dead bodies, as she was almost killed last summer. She starts investigating, and comes up with any number of suspects. Her sleuthing puts her in danger, and it looks like she may not survive this time. There’s also a side story about wild mustangs, and a missing pregnant mare, the Cat also helps solve. This is a fun book, with interesting characters, and a great setting. Fans of small town murder mysteries will like this one.
