The year is 1947, WWII is over, and the setting is Elderberry, Vermont. Maple Bishop lost her husband in the war, and her twin brother, after a beating in a bar. She makes dollhouses that she sells, and after helping to solve a murder in the first book, she is a consultant for the Sheriff’s office. When Daniel is found burned to death in the cabin he was living in, Maple is asked to help with the case. On the surface, it looks like an accident, but Maple believes more is going on, and she and Deputy Kenny travel to Boston to tell Daniel’s mother about the death, and to do some snooping around. Once back, Maple figures out that something wasn’t right in the cabin, makes a shocking discovery, and finds her life in danger. A small-town murder mystery, with big-time mobsters, makes for a good investigative novel. The characters are fun, somewhat quirky and interesting to read. Hopefully, there will be more novels in the series.
