Book Review: ‘Murder In Belgravia’ Is A Thrilling Mayfair 100 Mystery

Set in 1915 as WWI is approaching a shocking murder takes place involving an aristocrat Lady Harriet who says she murdered her husband. Chief Inspector Beech is in charge of the case. Something about it doesn’t seem right and Lady Harriet is in a bad way. She wants a woman she can talk to. There are not many woman police officers at this time but there are woman Doctors. He gets Dr. Caroline to come and she says Harriet needs to go to the hospital right away. She’s rushed into surgery and is in grave condition. She was brutally attacked and was pregnant but not anymore.

Beech puts together a secret committee involving two women and men to investigate. Victoria, Caroline, Rigsby and Tollman are assigned to investigate. It leads them to things they never thought they would see and a world never imagined. It also brings the world of drugs into the forefront and puts a young girl named Polly live in jeopardy. All four people are on the job to try and figure everything out before it is too late.

It’s a great look at the time period and how women were treated then. It puts them in a great spotlight and the female characters are portrayed very strongly here. The story is enjoyable as well and the time period fits perfectly into the novel. It looks like this is the start of a new series and I for one look forward to more.

You can pick up the book in stores on Tuesday, March 13 from Crooked Lane.
