Scarlett Gardner owns a bookstore in Southern California, Palm Trees and Page Turners, that she opened months ago with her boyfriend, who flew the coop soon after. Now she, and Evelyn, her employee run it, and business is good. Now on this morning, she finds a dead body on the rocks by the beach, and she was the last customer of last night. And then it turns out she was rich, and left everything to Scarlett, who has no idea who she was, but was thinking she might be her real mother, who gave her up for adoption. The police now suspect Scarlett, and she decides to go on the offense, and try to figure out who she was, and who killed her. But someone doesn’t want her to have the money, or investigate, and she may not be around to spend any of the money. This is a good start to this new small-town mystery series. A solid story, and characters we can care about. Looking forward to the next adventure.
