It’s 1946 and things seem to be going well for Iris and Gwen, who is finally free from the courts to live her life the way she wants, and is even dating. Iris seems happy with Archie, even if he may do some shady things. They want to plan a New Year’s Eve party, and turn to him for a venue that he is remodeling, The White Palace. While visiting it, they discover the body of a man buried in the walls. The police, led by Iris’s ex-Mike, look at Archie as a prime suspect. Things take a deadly turn later at a family wedding, when Archie is shot and almost dies. Gwen and Iris decide to investigate who wanted him dead and what connection is has to the dead body they found. This is the sixth novel in the series and it’s another good one. These two characters are great and well-written strong women. Fans of the series will be happy with this one.
