Book Review: ‘Murder At Midnight: A Lily Adler Mystery’ By Katharine Schellman

It’s Christmastime in 1816 in England, which means it’s time for the annual party at Mrs. Grantham’s mansion. Lily Adler, still missing her husband, who died three years ago, is reunited with Matthew, her brother-in-law, and Jack, a close friend of her late husband, and whose sister in involved in a scandal. A terrible snowstorm hits, and a good deal of the guests have to stay at the house until the storm ends, and the roads melt. On the first night, a guest is shot to death, and everyone is a suspect. Lily helps assist Constable John in trying to solve the murder, and then another guest is killed. Soon Lily discovers all sorts of things are going on, blackmail, theft, secret hookups and family secrets. No one is safe, and when Lily figures out the truth, it might be too late for her. This is another great novel in the series. Lily is a well-written character, that is smart, and fun to read. Fans of the series will really like this new one.
