The sixth novel in the series is another great one from author Phillip Margolin. It’s a bit of a change from the first five, it still has the legal aspect of it, but also has an old-fashioned murder mystery. Robin Lockwood is a tough as nails defense attorney and is called to Black Oaks, an old house on a hill, with a chilling history, by former D.A. Frances Melville. Years ago he got a conviction for murder of Jose Alvarez and sent a young man to death row. Then a few years later (as a defense lawyer), he defended the star witness from that trial on alleged rape charges, and got him off. Then the man confessed he was guilty and he killed the woman from years ago. Frances couldn’t say anything because of client-attorney laws. Now he decides it’s the time to confess what he did and hires Robin to get the man on death row cleared and she does. Now at a get together for Robin and Jose and a few others, turns to murder and Robin is on the case to figure out who the murderer is. Fans of this series will like this new legal/murder mystery.
