In August of 1990, a 6-month-old little girl, named Bella Carpenter, went missing from her hotel room. Detective Inspector Martha Allen is assigned the case and is determined to find the baby. A couple of days later, a woman named Neil Beatty brings a baby to the police station, she claims she found her on a bench, and then vanishes from the police station.. The parents say it’s Bella and leave with their baby. Something doesn’t add up to Allen, but her hands are tied as she’s told to move on from the case. Thirty years later, Allen learns about Neil Beatty’s death and decides to re-investigate the case again and tracks down Neil’s life, and discovers shocking evidence about what happened all those years ago. This is the debut novel from author Jackson, and it’s a solid start to her career. The book is kind of predictable in parts, but it has some twists you don’t see coming. I look forward to seeing what she does next.
