Book Review: ‘Midnight Is The Darkest Hour: A Novel’ By Ashley Winstead

Bottom Springs, Louisiana is a small, religious town, where nothing bad usually happens. It’s where Ruth Cornier, the daughter of the pastor of the town lives, and has always had to deal with him being her father, and having a strict upbringing. Her only true happiness growing up was finding a Twilight novel, and falling for Edward. On this day, a skull is found in the swamp. For Ruth, it brings back a shocking secret from seven years ago, with her friend Everett, where they left a dead body in the swamp, saving their lives. She thinks it may be him, and they will be in trouble. It’s not, but other bodies show up, and she thinks it might be the ‘Low Man’ a legend of the swamp, that comes out every year to collect bodies. Ruth and Everett will do what they can to solve this before it’s too late. An intense, psychological thriller, that will keep you reading along. A perfect gothic novel.
