Carrie Starr used to be a detective in Chicago until something happened and now she has the job of as a Tribal Marshall in Oklahoma for the Saliquaw reservation. Her first day on the job is to interview the mother of Chenoa Cloud, a graduate student who has vanished from the reservation. Then the body of another girl is found in the woods and a fracking deal for the reservation is on the table, dividing the tribe about accepting it or not. Carrie is up against the clock to solve the case of the murdered girl and the missing girl, when she gets evidence that could lead her to the killer and help may come from an unexpected source, The Deer Woman. This is the debut novel from author Dove and it’s a solid story, with a good lead character and a great look at what life is like for indigenous people in this country.
