Vivian Levy’s father has died and she heads to his Maine lake house to scatter his ashes as he requested. She plans on selling the house and taking the money to open her own bar/restaurant with her married boyfriend. When she gets there she finds Lcuy is in the house. It turns out she has a half-sister she never knew about, although Lucy knew about her. They are the same age, her father got her mother pregnant before he married Vivian’s mother. Lucy had no idea that he died and is shocked. She tries to get along with Vivian and wants to be sisters. Vivian isn’t interested and informs Lucy she’s selling the cabin, which Lucy tries to talk her out of. As both their worlds crumble, they have each other to lean on and they try to navigate their relationship as the summer goes along. This is a very good character-driven novel, at its core it’s about family, pain and putting the past behind them and moving forward. A perfect spring beach read.
