Madeline McKnight has made a lot of money over years in finance. She has also lost a lot of her friends over the years because of finance. The year is 2018, in the summer, and in her mid-60’s, she has cancer and is dying. That is not stopping her from living her life. She lost her best friend seventeen years ago and calls her daughter Brigid, who is a nursing student, and asks her to come take care of her, live in her house, and make lots of money in hopes of making up to her what happened to her mother. Brigid is in debt because of her mother, was dumped by her girlfriend, and has nothing good going for her, so she agrees. At first things are tense between them, but quickly they thaw and they bring out the best in each other. This is a well-written, character-driven novel that is a gem of a read. Following along on the path of the women is refreshing and fun. This one is not to be missed.
