Book Review: ‘Made Men: The Story Of Goodfellas’ By Glenn Kenny

It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Goodfellas came out. The movie was nominated for six Oscars (winning one for Joe Pesci), five Golden Globe awards and eight British Academy Awards (winning five). A lot went into making the movie and now author Glenn Kenny, a film critic, goes behind the scenes of the movie and literally examines every aspect and it seems like every second of the movie, from the beginning to the very end.

From the movie being written, to Martin getting the cast he wanted including Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro. In face if De Niro hadn’t agreed to do the movie it might never have been made. And get this the person at Warner Bros. Pictures that greenlit the movie actually thought maybe Tom Cruise and Madonna could be Henry and Karen, if you can believe that. Luckily someone got him to change his mind. Kenny looks at each actor’s careers and even talked to some of them as well as other people behind the scenes that helped make the movie. He analyzes every aspect of the movie from the opening credits to voice overs to it seems like every scene in the movie right down to the ziti recipe.

This is an awesome book on the movie. I’ve seen other behind the making of movie books but nothing compares the job author Glenn Kenny did. He’s to be commended for the research and the facts from the obvious to the littlest thing. Just a Great Job Sir!

You can pick up Made Men: The Story Of Goodfellas in stores on Tuesday, September 15th from Hanover Square Press.
