Billie Wright left her small Wisconsin town years ago to go to college in New York and became a doctor. She also left behind her boyfriend, Mick, who couldn’t handle long distance anymore. Today, she is engaged to Dean and works with her best friends at the fertility clinic. Everything should be great in her life, until Mick calls out of the blue, she hasn’t talked to him in years, to give her bad news, her best friend Erin has died in a car crash. Erin leaves behind her daughter, Phoebe, who is 11. At the funeral, she sees Mick, and they soon learn Erin wanted both of them to raise Phoebe. Mick is willing to take her in and raise her, with Billie visiting when she can. When Dean agrees to move to Wisconsin, things seem okay, or have Phoebe move to New York, but things don’t work out that way. When Billie learns a shocking secret, it could change everything, but Phoebe is her first priority, and maybe there can be a second chance at love. This is another amazing novel from author Emily Giffin, who never disappoints. With strong characters, a charming girl in Phoebe, and twists you don’t see coming, this one should not be missed.
