Author Lauren Layne is back with book number two in her Central Park Pact series. It follows three women Claire, Audrey and Naomi, who met at the funeral of Claire’s husband. Audrey and Naomi where sleeping with him. They figured it out on that day and made a pact from that day forward that they would watch each other’s backs when it came to men and became best friends.
This book centers on Claire. It’s been a year since the funeral and she still is in a funk. She hasn’t cleaned out his stuff yet and hasn’t been laid in forever. She has decided that she needs to stop being so vanilla. She also has money from the life insurance and has decided to renovate the house she lives in that needs it badly. So along comes Scott, a friend of Oliver’s from the first book (and part of this one). He has a chip on his shoulder, an attitude and a dog named Bob. He isn’t going to take the job at first but decides to take it. It’s a lot of work and they spare over what it should look like.
Of course this being a rom-com there is an attraction, fighting, arguing, a night of hot sex and then a fight, misunderstanding and not wanting to face feelings. Can they overcome their past failures and hurts to make a go it?
This second book is as good as the first one. Fun characters, interesting setting with the upper-class New Yorkers and a couple that you root for. There’s LOL moments and Bon the dog is a fun addition.
