Three years ago Holly and her pregnant sister Lily met Jack in a coffee shop, it was a brief meeting, and Jack gave Holly his number. On their way out, a terrible car accident took place, Holly was driving and someone swerved into them, and Lily lost the baby and blamed Holly. Now three years later they don’t talk. Holly is part of lonely-heart’s holiday group and sends out letters, and she receives them as well. The one she got from Emma touched her, and she was able to track Emma down, even though it’s suppose to anonymous. Turns out Emma has cancer, and is estranged from her grandson Jack, yes the same Jack. Holly is determined to reunite them. When she goes to see Jack, they become close, until she reveals Emma’s condition, which pisses Jack off, as he blames her for the death of his father at age 10. They move past that, become close, all reunited, but shocking secrets are revealed, and they involve all three, and the hope is everyone can put the past behind them and move forward. This is a well-written, heartbreaking novel at times, that gets you emotionally involved. Make sure to have tissues handy.
