The Weston and Coldwell families are rich, powerful and at the top of New York society. Everything they do is under the microscope, and scandal is not allowed. When Valerie Weston and Adam Coldwell fall in love and plan to be married, neither family is happy about it. Then, at a party for their engagement, both die of a drug overdose. The Coldwell family pubicly blamed Valerie, while the Weston family stayed quiet. Helena Weston, the younger sister of Valerie, who looked up to her, was sent to Cambridge in England for college. Jessiah Coldwell, the black sheep of the family, was in Australia at the time of the deaths, having escaped New York, came home and is now running his late father’s 13 restaurants, and is ready to escape the city again. Helena is back and determined to find out what really happened to her sister years ago. She and Jessiah are on a collision course, as they keep running into each other, an attraction develops, and soon they hit the sheets. When each of their mother’s find out, they are outraged, and they are told it must end. They don’t care and are determined to be together, until fate steps in and tears them apart. This is the first in this new series, and it’s an intense novel about grief and family. It’s a well-written, character-driven novel, and you root for these two to be together. A perfect start to this series and a great summer beach read.
