Seven years ago Lark Smith lost the love of her life to cancer. Today she’s an oncology resident who gets too emotional with her patients and is transferred to the ER for now. When surgeon Dr. Lorenzo Santini, nicknamed Dr. Satan, meets with her and makes her a proposal. He needs a fake girlfriend for the summer and for his sister’s upcoming wedding and in return, he will pay her and use his connections to get her back into oncology. Should be easy, she loves his family, they love her, and she’s attracted to his hunky firefighter brother Dante, who she has a past connection to. Supporting stories include her mother leaving her father and moving in with Lark’s landlord Joy (a great character). All three women are on a path to better their lives and rely on each other to get what they want. This is another great, well-written female-centric novel from author Higgins. She’s the master of these kinds of novels and never disappoints.
