Cleo is going to school at NYU and has been having issues with her overbearing mother Kat. On this night, she agrees to have dinner with her at their house in Brooklyn. When she gets there things are off, and she notices a bloody shoe under the couch, no sign of her mother, calls the police. Cleo decides to investigate on her own and finds any number of suspects could have hurt her mom. Turns out Kat had a lot of secrets and potential enemies. We learn via flashback chapters of the days leading up to whatever happened at Kat’s house and follow along with Cleo investigating, and someone doesn’t want her getting close to the truth. It leads to a shocking twist and who did Kat harm and what happened to her. This is a twisty, fun, psychological thriller, that you don’t want to put down. Author Kimberly McCreight has another hit on her hands.
